My New(ish) Years resolutions

As you can see I am still trying to stretch the New Years thingy out as much as possible, slotting in another new years related post in just enough time for it to be acceptable before they start getting to easter eggs out already. You can probably tell from the not very SEO friendly title its taken me a while to get round to doing this but finally with it the end of January approaching I have got round to deciding upon some new years resolutions!

After a crazy christmas in panto land, some time to properly get as far away from anything that remotely looks like work as possible and the hustle and bustle of starting back at uni, this didn’t exactly feel like the perfect time to be turning my life upside down and making changes. From having the month to settle down a bit I feel now is as good a time as any to put together a list of a couple of goals of the year.

A lot of them are rather internet/bloggy based and I know none are particularly ground breaking. If your looking for someone who is going to aim to see the severn wonders of the world and read the complete works of shakespeare, backwards (probably something I should actually think about doing for uni :/) then you have come to the wrong gal. But with last year being how can i put it nicely… a bit pooey, i’m determined for the beginning of this new year to push myself and try and give myself the best chances to enjoy the year as possible.

Push forward the blog, YouTube and posting more regularly

Any long time readers here will know that over the year and a bit that Fabric Forward has been residing in this little corner of the internet, having a set schedule of content going up weekly has been some what of a distant dream. So with giving myself a little kick up the arse I am going to try and stick to having 1 post go up every Wednesday morning and 1 video up every Sunday with maybe a couple of extras thrown in for good measure (you will probably be able to tell when I have had a rather boring week). Blogging and youtube is definitely something that I have found a new love for recently most likely due to looking at some many other peoples wonderful blogs out there which I would love mine to be as good as. So over the coming year I hope to continue to push forward with it hopefully making both bigger and better. Now I have written that down it all seems far more scary than it should. At least it is a good start with this going up on a Wednesday, all pray for me this Sunday ;)

Better quality videos

This is obviously very much linked with the last one but since moving to London this year I feel like i’ve let the videos slip in number and in quality. Any other student doing youtube will know that it’s not easy trying to film when living in halls with noise coming from all angles, rubbish natural light and not a particularly instagram friendly background to film in front of. Because of this over the year there have definitely been some videos that I have posted for either the sake of feeling like I should be posting a video to be regular or just to trying to get on board with some of the current youtube trends. Obviously I still have a tiny audience and in the grand scale of things this probably isn’t something that I should maybe be worrying myself with but being something I enjoy I want to be able to create quality interesting content that I love and that I am proud of and would want to watch myself.

With realising I don’t have the best set up at home this year I am aiming to  take the camera out of my cardboard box of a room, get out into the world and start doing more daily vlogs and lookbooks. Of the few that I have done these have always been my favourite to shoot and and edit (with there being only so much of your badly lit face on a strange cream background that one can manage). I know I am no editing wiz with having two pieces of footage in the same frame still making me far to excited but I do have a couple of ideas for some slightly different videos up my sleeves so when I find some free time I will be looking forward to getting cracking on those!

Eat better

If you read my last post all about ways of busting the new year blues you will know that I spoke about how I find coming up a with a couple of new meals for the new year is a good way bust the blues and make life a little bit more interesting. Well, I’m not going to lie, having had to ready meals in a row over the past two nights Pret still drawing me in for lunch, this one hasn’t been going so well for me however slowly in time I will explore the depths of Pintrest and find some new and hopefully healthy dishes to brighten up my evenings.

Take more photos

With blogging being all about photos and imagery and with snapchat and instagram being at our fingertips only a click away, you do feel like you are sometimes taking photos of everything from your dinner to our feet on a pretty flooring just to try and bulk out that instagram theme. Come on, you know you’ve done it. However sometimes it feels its the most enjoyable times be it being with friends of family, working on something cool or exploring the world are the moments that we forget to photograph. So this year I am keen to get snapping and start documenting these occasions to look back on and remember in the future. So beware, if your around me you may have a camera in your face ;)

Also another photography aim of mine is to have saved up to able to buy a swishy new camera lens. The 50mm will always have a place in my heart but a 70 – 200 has been calling my name for a while and my pennies are finally starting to mount up so hopefully it won’t be long until one of them in mine *insert evil movie villain laugh*. Also its rather nice that I can already tick one aim of the list of putting together my own photography website *moment of shameless self promotion* www.chloeknottphotography.come. So if you would like to take a gander please feel free to show me some love and click the link above :)

To properly explore London more

Its around 4 month now that I have been living in this big old smoke that we call London and despite feeling like I know my way pretty well around central London, I know that with it being so big (shocker) there is so much there for me still to discover and explore. One of my favourite past times over the years has always been exploring new cities with having no fear of going off on my tod to explore all the ins and outs and nooks and crannies. With it being such a cool and vibrant city with always sometime new and interesting going on, its such a shame to let it go to waste and keep doing the same old thing. Having a couple of free weekends down here in the coming weeks I look forward to making the most of and exploring places which aren’t Piccadilly circus and Covent Garden.

Relaunch Chloe Natalie Knott Makeup Bags

Any long term readers may remember that during the summer of 2015 after leaving art college I started up my own brand of makeup bags being made and designed by me. This started off quite well but as is ever the way life gets busy and some things get pushed to the back burner and unfortunately this was one of those things. However now it is finally time to dust of the sewing machine and get cracking on the finishing of the products for the brand new range. (ooo a range how exciting, and I promise they don’t have dust on them really). I have some brand new designs which I love and am proud of which I just need finish so hopefully it won’t be long until they are finally out there in the world!

Tidy room, tidy mind!

Yes, guilty, my room is a mess. As someone who used to pride herself on her organisational skills and would tidy her room for fun (what?) its a bit sad to see it all descend into what can look like a pit of madness. It definitely gets worse when your busy and the last thing you want to do at 12 at night is hang all your clothes up neatly and tidily. However this year I am going to make extra effort to try and keep my room looking vaguely organised so at least I can see a good chunk of my flooring again.

Busting the January blues

Busting the January blues

So Monday the 16th of January came and went. To most people this is another normals day but apparently over recent years it has been coined as the most depressing day of the year. With the all the fun and festivities behind us and just enough time to let some of those new years resolutions starting to slip away, it can be all to easy for mid January to turn into a bit of a downer. However, having spent one to many evenings alone in the flat nursing a one too many bowls of weetabix and nearly resorting to watching everything in my subscription box a second time round, i’ve finally unearthed myself from under the duvet to get out and get proactive and try to set an example to myself for the rest of the year. Only time will tell if this works out or not! So here is a list of my best ways of trying to bust the new year blues this January!

Taking up a new hobby

Be it tap dancing or tiddlywinks there is never a better time than any than at the beginning of a new year to pick a new hobby. After all the socialising of the party season I will be the first one wanting to turn into a bit of a recluse and spend the best part of the month hiding under a pile of pillows. However taking up a new hobby will not only get you your creative juices flowing and your brain back into gear but it could also give you the opportunity to socialise more and meet more like minded people. And who knows what might happen, you find that you rather quickly become the best miniature model cake crochet-er in the country! (Genuine failed hobby of mine #807)

Get out and get active!

Now hear comes the old cliche of starting off a new year by getting fit and healthy. By this I really don’t mean you have to go out and sign your life away to a new gym that you will use once, get intimidated by the large muscly men and continue to spend your evenings at home binge watching Lost with a large bowl of trifle (got to put the weetabix down on some occasions). Getting the so good old fresh air pumping through your lungs from a simple walk around the park or leisurely bike ride can do you the world of good after being cooped up inside all day. After all, it will give you an excuse to try out that new pedometer that you were so lovingly given by your mum for christmas, not as a hint or anything!

Go to the cinema

With Brent and Bridget making their returns to our screens last year, cinema has definitely been on good form recently. But with awards seasons now well underway the beginning of a new year is always brimming with brand new brilliant films to take a good gander at. Whether it be action or animation that tickles your fancy, I find its a great way to pass the time in the cold winter night.

Having a “spring” clean and getting rid of all the crap

Lambs may not have started leaping, daffodils may not have started growing and spring may not have sprung quite yet however spring doesn’t have to be here quite yet to have a good old clear out. I always find having a good old cleanse of your surroundings at the beginning of a new year will make for a much happier and healthier you. All the stuff which we have manage to accumulate over the year that we have desperately convinced ourselves that we need can either be chucked out or given a brand new how for someone to love more than you. And besides, you need to make some room for all those brand new christmas presents anyway.

fabric_forward_chloe_knott_autumn-33

fabric_forward_chloe_knott_autumn-35

Find some new meals.

I know its a pain but with most of the tins of biscuits laying bare and selection of various cheeses all finished off, its time to put down the tin of quality street and find actual proper meals made with actual proper healthy things and stuff. I’m not saying go on some crazy celery juicing health kick (if celery juice is even a thing) however after having one to many batch cooked, reheated bolognese’s at the end of last year I definitely think it is time to broaden my culinary horizons and try something which isn’t 90% pasta!

Now I just have to go and put all these into practise!

Christmas for the un-christmassy

Christmas for the un-christmassy

2

Well for starters Merry Christmas everyone! I hope you all had a good day and are still sleeping off the food comas and hangovers that you acquired from a little bit too much of everything. I can safely say having a day reserved pretty much for eating far too much food while watching far too much tele was just what I needed.

This year christmas has been rather different for me. With being wrapped up in the crazy old world of Panto, working all the hours god sent up until christmas eve and getting back to work on boxing day, I was far more excited this year for christmas day than usual if for nothing more than a nice day of rest!

chloe_knott_fabric_forward_raglan_castle-28

chloe_knott_fabric_forward_raglan_castle-26

chloe_knott_fabric_forward_raglan_castle-20

chloe_knott_fabric_forward_raglan_castle-23

I would never usually consider myself the most christmassy of people. Don’t get me wrong I love the idea of christmas, spending the day with the people you love, eating some great food and getting a couple of nice presents along the way but somehow between childhood and growing into an adult the whole occasion somewhat lost some of its magic. Maybe it was from at the age of 13 being told by your parents Santa isn’t actually real and you no longer get a stocking or being given one to many body spray sets you seriously start to question how badly you must smell or being forces to watch the christmas day episode of Eastenders year on year (evidently I don’t have the most festive of parents!) Also with usually only letting myself vaguely entertain the idea of christmas until after my birthday is done and dusted (3rd Dec), which by this point advent calendars are all sold out and Black Friday present deals have been and gone I tend to miss the bandwagon.

But as I said this year I have been determined to make the most of christmas, enjoy my time of to relax and see family and try to forget about the last stressful term and before a probably worse one. So I decided to put together a little collection of the ways in which this year I will try and make myself enjoy the festive period. None of these are going to be ground breaking, I’m sure probably all of you do this already but these are just a couple of ways I will be spending my christmas hollibobs!

chloe_knott_fabric_forward_raglan_castle-17

chloe_knott_fabric_forward_raglan_castle-13

CHRISTMAS TELE

I really have been rather crap on the tele front this year. With not even getting around to watching what was once the highlight of my TV calendar, Strictly Come Dancing, christmas will be a bit of a shock to the system with actually sitting down to watch some TV on an actual tele! With christmas specials in abundance (outnumbered being this years personal highlight) and the good old classics being pumped out to fill the gaps (how can anyone not like Blackadder), its the best time of year to have a good old TV binge and enjoy watching Chicken Run for the 8th time.

chloe_knott_fabric_forward_raglan_castle-9

UNAPOLOGETIC REST

Anyone like me who can be a bit of a workaholic, sometimes it is hard to completely shut down and and forget about deadlines and projects and what I should be doing next. But if there is any time of the year that this can and should all be forgotten about it is christmas. This may be somewhat hypocritical writing this now but just put dow the notepad, sit down, relax and watch that whole series of lost in 2 days with a family size pack or bourbons by your side (to share, obviously).

chloe_knott_fabric_forward_raglan_castle-4

chloe_knott_fabric_forward_raglan_castle-3

CHRISTMAS BAKING

Anyone around me who knows me will know that I am some what of a foodie. Not in the sense of fancy Michelin star restaurants with caviar and quails eggs but in the sense of just loving a good old bit of grub! With christmas being the one time of year when you can drink and eat chocolate before lunch time and eat cake convincing yourself that its healthy because it has fruit in it, I love to crack out the cooking equipment and make a lovely batch of biscuits or muffins for either yourself or to be a lovely hand made present for a relative.

chloe_knott_fabric_forward_raglan_castle-2

chloe_knott_fabric_forward_raglan_castle-33

SEEING FAMILY

Now I know this is kind of the obvious thing for people to do over the christmas break but having been away for the whole term without a reading week and working full time over christmas, getting to go home and see some family on christmas day is a rather exciting prospect.

chloe_knott_fabric_forward_raglan_castle-35

EXPLORING THE CITY

With living in London there is so much going on over the christmas period that it would be stupid to miss them all. So on the small time that I have of I am determined to hit up the christmas markets even if just for the smell of mulled wine and gingerbread, visit Winter Wonderland to see what all the fuss is about and plainly have a nice wonder around the city to see all the beautiful christmas lights.

Spotlight on – Getting organised and proactive!

Spotlight on – Getting organised and proactive!

As I sit here surrounded by 4 notepads having just planned out my week ahead in acute detail, I do tend to think of myself as a rather organised person. There have been many times in my life where I wish I could get my nose out of my dairy and just let everything role along happily but with my brain seeming more sieve like than brain like, if its not written in my diary and well as being written on reminder post it notes and my daily lists, then it will get forgotten. Now with it still being the beginning of a new year (only just realised it is now February, that still counts right?), what better time for everyone to get organised and help get their life in gear. So here are a few of my little tips for trying to stay organised!

IMG_3124LIST BOOKS

We all know that extremely satisfying experience of being able to cross to tick something off a list right, well with being a list obsessive you get this lovely experience many times a day.

One of these can seem like a little gift from god when times get busy and hectic. Being able to off load all the big and small things into one manageable list to work through seems to make my life a whole lot easier. But you do need to make sure that this list writing doesn’t go to far. It can be a dangerous business ;) Firstly don’t let it get to the point when you write ‘write new list’ on your list…been there far too many times. And secondly, try not to have too many notebooks not the go at once, you may forget which one your current list is then, then all hell may break loose ;)

WEEKLY PLANNERS ARENT JUST FOR MUMS

Even if you don’t have to plan getting one child to football practice and another at ballet while taking yourself to yoga, weekly planners or diaries are the way forward. I like being able to put down everything I have planned for the week onto one page to see how much I have to do, If things clash and if some things need to be moved around. With being thoroughly stuck the dark ages this process definitely stays on paper for me and hasn’t yet sneaked onto the phone or computer. Like I like being able to hold a proper book rather than a kindle, I like being able to plan my week out with a paper and pen, add things in and cross things out (without messing up the perfectly neat handwriting ;) .)

IMG_3079

STICKY NOTES CAN NEVER BE TOO CLOSE

For the moment when inspiration strikes and no notebook or diary seems to be within easy reach, this is when that pile of sticky notes lurking in the corner of your desk has their moment to shine. I particularly love this pack from knock knock with the different colours and slogans. Now I can’t say I have much to delegate or much I can eagerly write down to put off, but out of pure beauty, they will get used on occasion.

As much as I try to organise myself putting all the right steps in place, my productivity levels can drop towards the floor. With a cosy bed day in front of I Player looking so much more appealing than chaining yourself to your desk, (I’m really selling working here aren’t I) sometimes we just have to get round to it. So here are some of my top tips at getting proactive.

IMG_3118

HAVING A ROUTINE (as boring as it sounds)

Now I’m not expecting everyone to be getting up at 6:30 sharp everyday, having a kale and spinach smoothie, heading to the gym for a long work out and then effortlessly slipping back into your perfectly scheduled work routine (god knows I don’t do that,) however having a routine  can be so beneficial for being proactive. One of the most productive times of my life was when I was back in college. I look back on the days of getting up at 6:45 every day and wondering how the hell I did it, with me now being a uni student me and 6:45 have not met in a long time. But i think being able to do this was partly down to having such a rigid routine. With most days following the same sort of pattern, getting up and working felt a lot easier because your body does the exact same thing every day and knows what it has to do. I’m not saying that I used to spring out of bed wide awake and fresh as a daisy at 6:45, however being busy and having a routine works a lot better for me than getting up when I want and doing work whenever I want.

PUT ON CLOTHES

I’m not talking about anyone working in the nude should put clothes on, if that works for you then go ahead, but what I do mean is get out of those pyjamas and put of on some normal clothes. I like anyone else will always be inclined to have a lazy day of wearing lounge wear but just changing into jeans and a T shirt can make such a difference, separating yourself from relaxing mode to working mode.

IMG_3096

PREETY STUFF IS COOL

Im a sucker for anything with a pretty pattern on it, what can I say, i’m a textile’s student. But if i find a lovely pretty notebook or set of stationary I am far more likely to want to write in it, even if I don’t have anything to write!

IMG_2886

MAKE STARBUCKS YOU NEW OFFICE (other cafe’s are available)

Now I’m not saying work out of the house everyday, staying in the conform of your home with snacks on tap can be very appealing however, however once or twice a week is a nice little change to freshen up our surrounds and get out of the house. Now dreading the day that baristas at my local cafe will say ’the usual?’, living in a big city I like being able to explore and go around and try different cafe’s (or at least just a different branch of Costa) to work. Also with this being somewhat of a trend nowadays to get productive over you pain au chocolat, sometimes it’s nice to work around other people doing the same thing as you, however the noisy family of 7 to your left throwing coffee around may get annoying after a little while.

If you haven’t already had enough of me from this post please feel free to comment and like and I would love it if you could follow me at the normal places..
