On our second morning in Arran after spending far too long deciding on which part of the Island to go to, we decided to go right back to the same parts as the day before. Despite being a tad unadventurous, it turned out to have been a really good decision with managing to get some really cool shots with such a dramatic landscape.

I kept the look simple with this simple marron body con dress which ended up complementing the green and beige tones of the landscape really well. As someone who tends to run and hide under a massive jumper at the very mention of the word bodycon, I was pleasantly surprised how this little number from H and M nicely skims my curves without being too clingy.  (Looks like the massive meal of venison sausages I had the night before didn’t do my waist too much harm.)

The Isle of Arran | Part 2

The Isle of Arran | Part 2

There aren’t many places in the world I wouldn’t think that you are able to get a sandy beach and a snow topped mountain in the same picture (other than apparently in Middle Earth however my knowledge of that is rather hobbit sized :P. So for part 2 of my Isle of Arran series you find me frolicking around on a sandy empty beach. You may be thinking “Chloe, what lovely warm weather it looks like on the beach and its amazing that you have managed to get it all to yourself! Well, in the middle of February in single digit temperatures I can’t say many other people were jumping at the chance of going to the beach without wearing a serious amount of thermals. However together we braved the perilous icy cold temperatures in order to get some nice pics (bit dramatic but if you cant be dramatic when standing in front of a snow topped mountain then when can you?)

Style File – A Day in the Snow (again) + VLOG!

Style File – A Day in the Snow (again) + VLOG!

IMG_2281

The snow may be long gone now here in Glasgow (yet it still decided to leave the cold weather behind) but I couldn’t help having a little reminisce about the beautiful fluffy stuff, and not just with a blog post, oh no no, with a video as well! I finally bit the bullet and decided to stray into the realms of what my mother like to call ”the youtube’’ and start vlogging. So if you would like to see me frolicking around in the snow, click the link below!

So with the snow crunching under our feet we headed off to Kelvingrove park in the lovely west end of Glasgow to get some fun little shots. It was so nice to see so many family’s and groups of friends out enjoying the snow (and for once we didn’t look odd taking loads of photos with everyone joining on the band wagon). It was nice to let out my inner 5 year old again if not for very long throwing around some snowballs and couldn’t I resist joining this funny line up of snowmen

As much I wanted to put on the biggest puffa jacket with many many layers of thermals underneath, I braved the cold to with one of my new favourite looks with really wanting to show it to you (don’t worry, not frost bite was caught in the making of this blog, my jacket was surprisingly warm). As ever it centres rather solely around black but I added a touch of pattern with, you guessed it, a scarf. (more about this in my statement scarf post here)

I have to give a moment of appreciation for my favourite part of this outfit which has to be this skirt. Nowadays I far prefer long skirts over mini skirts finding them more comfortable, not worrying about putting them down all the time, more stylish and more age appropriate (god I sound about 50!) Its made of such lovely silky fabric which doesn’t cling to you, resulting in it’s meters of fabric flowing from places I didn’t know they could flow from.  With it being a dark plain colour it is very versatile meaning you could be a lot more adventurous than me with just a plain black jumper.

SPOTLIGHT ON: Styling Mom Jeans

SPOTLIGHT ON: Styling Mom Jeans

The ‘mom’ jeans first came into fashion a few summer’s ago with revival of the 80’s trend and vintage fashion coming into the for front of modern culture. Now it may have taken me a few years to cotton on to the trend at first dismissing after feeling a bit frumpy and making me fell rather large, but after seeing too many people looking far too brilliant in them I made it my mission to find myself the perfect pair of mom jeans.

With me being so down with the hipsters (well..hmm..) the one stop shop for mom jeans tends to be levi’s with them being the height of fashion of the era so populating the vintage shops around the globe, but with such a range of styles and limited sizes, vintage and second hand shopping doesn’t always work out. But brilliantly many high street shops have adopted the trend and produced there own versions bringing them into the 21st century. Also, with the style staying around for the past few years and others coming in and out around it, mom jeans have defiantly evolved, now being available with rips, holes, sequins, even pom poms to adorn them.

inspiration montage

As much as a love accessorising  decided to stay to the more simple approach choosing just a simple light blue wash denim pair. Now these ones are more of a slim fit, fitting quite tightly around the bum and the tops of the tights but getting looser around the knee and ankle to give them the mom jean style along with the high waist.

IMG_1900

When styling them I unintentionally decided to go full 80’s with this look pairing them with a short electric blue 3/4 length sleeve jumper. With light wash jeans already being unusual for me I continued to stray out of my comfort zone with the electric blue jumper. When Harry met Sally eat your heart out!

Now, when I find something I like and which works, the idea of getting them in more than one colour is just too appealing. These light blue wash denim ones I found from H and M surprisingly with it being a shop which I generally struggle with their jeans with there irregular sizing. Not long after in a store of luck I found a black pair very similar in Urban Outfitters in the sale no less. Ive looked at Urban Outfitters previously for jeans like this

They were a size too big but it was nothing a few stitches in the back couldn’t fix and if anything when cinched in with a belt, it adds to the whole style of it.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not going to tossing my black skinny’s to the waste side just yet, but my thighs defiantly heaved a sigh of relife after pealing off the skinny jeans for a while to be replaced with the airy and roomy mom jean!  So may rummaging around our mums old cupboard hoping that the jeans have not yet been a victim to the charity shop continue to go strong.
