White, I know, the colour that all of us clumsy people out there try and avoid with the fear of spilling all manner of substances down the front. Bolognese, orange juice and pen ink have all been things which any of my other pieces of white clothing have been succumbed to in the past.  However this summer I was extra brave and decided to risk it with an all white skirt.

With my what I am coining “granny chic” phase still in full swing, only increased by now seeming to be surrounded by vintage shops, anything that is button (or in this case popper) up the front and sits below the knee, my eyes will be draw to it. Paired with this simple black camisole top, a black western style belt and obviously my Doc Martens grunges up this pretty skirt and keeps it as the focus of the outfit.

As of writing this yet I have manage to keep the stains at bay, hopefully I haven’t just jinxed it!

Me and stripes have had a good old life long bond. Though thick and thin (literally), in the world of fashion i’ve found a decent striped print is something that can be very much be relied upon year on year.  This statement skirt from Topshop, one which I spoke rather adoringly about here, is definitely one of my more bolder choices being a stripy double wammy in the vertical and horizontal verities (and it leaps out the the realms of just black, white and blue.) Now you may be thinking I would be mad to pair this with yet more stripes but that I did with but with this thinly striped blue and white Zara number.

On this lovely day back in April I seemed to cash in all my lucky stars in the bluebell variety with some of the most beautiful scenery I think Scotland has to offer. Just have to pretend that I totally planned to wear blue on this day to match this and totally wasn’t a fluke.

With this countries mini July heatwave coming to an end and with me now finally being able to function once more, and all of us now realising we shouldn’t have complained that much about it being too hot with it now raining, it seemed only right to reminis on the beautiful weather with a post all about my trip to the beautiful Kentchurch Court Gardens.

This summer in particular I think I have had a real draw (just like a bee) to beautiful gardens and flowers. Sunny skies and pretty flowers, whats not to like? Maybe its me getting older (should I take out a national trust membership card already?) but Kentchurch Court Gardens has really tickled my appetite for all things floral and summery. With living the big city life nowadays its lovely and refreshing to come back to visits such beautiful  placed hidden away in the depths of the countryside.(totally haven’t been there 3 times in the past couple of weeks :/)

Not only have I been hanging out with the flowers I have also rather unusually for me started wearing them too. With my new discovery of a fab little vintage shop in my home town packed full with more vintage dresses than you can shake a stick at, It has definitely made shopping trips in little old Hereford a lot interesting (and less purse friendly too.)

Welcome to probably the longest outfit of the day post I have ever done, with the blossoms looked so pretty under the gorgeous sunlight, I think we got a little bit carried away with the camera. And why not when it looks so blooming pretty! (pun alert)

Now with a title like flower power you may be thinking I was going to go all 60/70’s on you with bold floral prints, flared trousers and knee length pvc boots.

Despite a surprising amount of those things coming back into fashion over the past few seasons (can’t say I was the first to see the floral flare coming back) I haven’t had the craving to adorn my legs with PVC quite yet, god help me if I do, but I have come with smidge of a floral pattern and a little bit of colour with this lovely teal flowered tea dress from Urban Outfitters. With the pussy bow neck tie, vintage style floral fabric and fitted A line mini shape, there is a some what of a wiff of the 1960’s about it.

With the sun having finally broken through the clouds it was a gorgeous day to grab out this dress and even get the old pins out despite how white and pasty they looked.

Get the look..

ME_BEFORE_YOU_FABRIC_FORWARD_8350

A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to get the chance to attend the the premier night fan screening of the new film adaptation of ‘me before you’ starting Sam Claflin and Emilia Clarke.

Having been a long time lover of the book ever since it burst onto our bookshelves, when I heard that their was going to be a film adaptation I knew that it was going to be a must see film for me. Then secondly finding out that in the lead roles would be the aforementioned Sam Claflin, I mean I might have a slight crush on him, just a tiny one ;), and Emilia Clarke tearing herself away from those beloved dragons, I was even more excited about it.

Then unbelievably thirdly being given the chance to go to the premier fan screening, with a guest appearance of Sam Claflin himself, it was an opportunity that the 411 miles between Glasgow and London weren’t going to hold me back from.

To give you a brief introduction into the story Will Trainor (Claflin), a young successful business man with an adrenaline fuelled lifestyle, is left after a road accident paraplegic from the neck down. After loosing her job at a the local bakery Louisa Clark (Emilia Clarke) takes a job as Will’s carer and after a rocky start it is from there that their love story begins.

And I barely have words for getting to sit next to him. I’m just glad I managed to show a vague amount of composure on my face for the photograph and not ending up a red faced smiling loon.

Without giving too much away, obviously having read the book I knew it would be a very fun film but also an incredibly emotional one too. With my general inability to cry at films its rather unusually for me to be left for the the last 20 minuets of the film sobbing through my sleeves after my idiocy of not bringing any tissues, and trying very hard to not end up proper ugly crying and snotting all over myself (lovely image). Ladies, I definitely recommend waterproof mascara.

The gifts of this evening kept on giving, literally, with our free copies of the book and some lovely bumblebee striped tights, the ones thing that I think has been missing from my wardrobe all this time (all becomes clear in the film)

‘me before you’ is currently in cinemas nationwide and Thank You to Warner Brothers for the experience.

Chloe Cooks | Spaghetti Carbonara

Chloe Cooks | Spaghetti Carbonara

Yes today we are back with another cooking post and this being the first one which isnt muffin related, yay! So I thought I would start off with something easy being a spaghetti carbonara.

After going out for dinner in London last week at Vapiano’s  in oxford circus (check them out, they are soo good), after eating the best carbonara I think i’ve ever had I was inspired to try and cook my own. Now I can’t this quite holds up to theirs (what their chefs can do just makes my mind boggle) but if you are a lover of pasta and Italian food in general this is a great easy, cheap and tasty alternative.

Now I know with it creeping into the summer months many of us are ditching the hearty carb heavy dishes in favour of salads and lighter dishes however I think theirs room for a good pasta somewhere (how their isn’t a spec of Italian blood in my I don’t know.)

SPEGHETTI_CARBONARA_FABRIC_FORWARD_8059

SPEGHETTI_CARBONARA_FABRIC_FORWARD_8020

Ingredients: (for 4 people)

  • 400g spaghetti
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 200g smoked Pancetta
  •  cubes or streaky bacon, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 3 eggs
  • 75ml double cream
  • 50g Grana padano or Parmesan, finely grated, plus extra to serve

Method

  1. Cook the spaghetti. Bring a large, deep pan of salted water to the boil. Plunge spaghetti into the water, stir well and cook, following pack instructions.
  2. Fry the pancetta. Meanwhile, heat the oil in a frying pan. When hot, tip in the pancetta or streaky bacon. Fry over a medium heat until the fat in the meat has melted down into the pan and the meat has turned lightly golden. Be careful not to crisp the pancetta too much; it will be cooked a little bit more later on in the recipe. Remove from the heat and set aside.
  3. Prepare the sauce. Crack 2 of the eggs into a mixing bowl. Separate the yolk from the third egg: gently crack the side of the shell and, using both hands, slowly open it into two halves over a separate bowl – you want to keep the yolk in one of the halves. Tip the yolk from one shell half to the other and repeat until all the egg white has fallen into the bowl below, taking care not to crack the yolk on any rough shell edges. Tip the yolk in with the other eggs and beat together, along with the cream, the cheese and some seasoning.
  4. Combine the dish. Add garlic to the pancetta and return frying pan to hob. Fry over high heat for 1 min or until garlic is cooked and pancetta warmed through. Meanwhile, drain spaghetti. Tip back into the hot saucepan off the heat. Pour egg mixture over pasta, followed by hot pancetta, garlic, any fat and oils. Toss quickly and thoroughly with spaghetti spoon or tongs. Mix until it has thickened to a smooth, creamy sauce. Serve with extra cheese and freshly ground pepper.

Isle of Arran | Dramatic Portrait Shoot

Isle of Arran | Dramatic Portrait Shoot

FABRIC_FORWARD_DRAMATIC_PHOTOSHOOT_ARRAN_CHLOE_KNOTT-31

Before you say anything, don’t worry, I’m acting, well, being in freezing cold water on a Scottish island in the middle of February in a thin floaty dress I suppose there wasn’t much acting needed really.

Continuing onto part 3 of my Isle of Arran blog series as you can tell this is a little bit of a different shoot from my usual with not graffitied walls or pretty doors in sight. The one of the main reasons for going to Arran, other than having a little explore, was to try and find the right sort of landscape to be able to do this type of dramatic photoshoot, beaches and bog lands don’t just appear next to the Hereford industrial estate unfortunately.

The whole sort of concept for the shoot was that I was a “victim” running away from an “attacker” with the whole True Detective season 1 vibes (unfortunately Matthew Mcconaughey couldn’t make it.)

From my acting background it was a nice little opportunity to flex that old muscle again, well thats what Tom said when trying to convince me to do it ;)

As you can imagine it was really rather cold and how I was convinced to do this again for another shoot recently I will never know.

So sit back and have look at me pulling some delightfully awful faces.

A couple of now months ago (doesn’t time fly) I fully exercised all my newly formed photography muscles with photographing Student Theatre at Glasgow’s production of Posh by Laura Wade. This was rather different from my usual of flower and still life’s with actual people and flashing lights to think about but it seemed my lucky stars were aligning on this day as I was really pleased with the results.

With the amazing venue of Cottiers Theatre being a renovated church which suited the play perfectly and such a talented cast and crew it was a  joy to work both backstage and as a photographer.

Through a mound of around 230 final photos I have managed to narrow it down to my final favorite 25 photos (I tried for 20 but I just can’t let them go!) and a couple of promo images too.

CHLOE_ARRAN_03

As you may remember (don’t worry I know you don’t) that A while ago I mentioned on my Instagram that me and my pal Tom took a wee trip over the the Isle of Arran. As someone who rarely goes on holiday a weekend away in the same country I live in for me is probably the everyday persons equivalent to 2 weeks in the Maldives. You may be thinking how nice is was to get away to a far flung island for a couple of days to relax and chill out without any thoughts of work. Well, it would have been stupid to go somewhere so unique and beautiful and not do some blog photos right? lots of photos in fact.

So for the next few weeks through the power of the photograph be guiding you through my wee little trip to Arran.

CHLOE_ARRAN_13

CHLOE_ARRAN_14

With leaving all the booking up to Tom and had done little research into the isle myself, I really didn’t know what to expect when I was getting there, well less know what to expect more than I expected it to be a tiny little island with a population of about 5 people and a dog (and many many sheep) and being so tiny a little fishing boat would be in order to get to it. When the large ferry pulled up into the port it new my expectations were a little wrong.

With this being the morning that we arrived I kept the look very casual and simple with these grey mom jeans and oversized shirt and jumper. I love the mixture of textures and prints within the combination of the striped shirt, the knitted jumper and woven scarf. Keeping them all within the same colour pallet they all work together well, despite all being thrown on in a hurry to be warm and cosy from the February chill.

Style File | Merchant City

When I first heard the phrase ‘Merchant City’ I imagined some large bustling market full of stall holders seeing everything from flowers to bread rolls, as something rather expected out of a disney film.  Basically everything being all ‘Merchanty’ (totally a word).

Now I’m not going to say that this is extremely far from the truth, you may find the odd bread roll rolling around, even if it is only there for the birds. In reality, replacing the market stalls for high end shops, the main part of it is a lovely square in the centre of Glasgow, our version of Trafalgar Square if you will, (including large statue with traffic cone on its head).

Using the steps outside the GOMA art gallery we couldn’t resist doing a wee outfit video alongs side some lovely little photos.

I can’t think of a time in my life when I wasn’t a fan of a good old brightly coloured jumper. Be it at Christmas time or middle of summer (yes even summer), brightly coloured jumpers manage to weasel their way into my wardrobe somehow.

This bright little beauty from Topshop was a recent addition in the new years sales this year. With colour being a rarity for me this is defiantly on the bolder side for my muted wardrobe, however I think it has become one of my new favourites.  Jumpers tend to be one of my favourite ways of introducing colour with it being so easy to chuck on with black, black and more black along side ticking all the boxes of warmth, comfort and versatility. I seem to have gone a bit Topshop crazy with this outfit with my jeans, jacket and belt also residing from Topshop with a nice little touch of mango and (obviously) Doc martens thrown in for good measure.

Style File – A Day in the Snow (again) + VLOG!

Style File – A Day in the Snow (again) + VLOG!

IMG_2281

The snow may be long gone now here in Glasgow (yet it still decided to leave the cold weather behind) but I couldn’t help having a little reminisce about the beautiful fluffy stuff, and not just with a blog post, oh no no, with a video as well! I finally bit the bullet and decided to stray into the realms of what my mother like to call ”the youtube’’ and start vlogging. So if you would like to see me frolicking around in the snow, click the link below!

So with the snow crunching under our feet we headed off to Kelvingrove park in the lovely west end of Glasgow to get some fun little shots. It was so nice to see so many family’s and groups of friends out enjoying the snow (and for once we didn’t look odd taking loads of photos with everyone joining on the band wagon). It was nice to let out my inner 5 year old again if not for very long throwing around some snowballs and couldn’t I resist joining this funny line up of snowmen

As much I wanted to put on the biggest puffa jacket with many many layers of thermals underneath, I braved the cold to with one of my new favourite looks with really wanting to show it to you (don’t worry, not frost bite was caught in the making of this blog, my jacket was surprisingly warm). As ever it centres rather solely around black but I added a touch of pattern with, you guessed it, a scarf. (more about this in my statement scarf post here)

I have to give a moment of appreciation for my favourite part of this outfit which has to be this skirt. Nowadays I far prefer long skirts over mini skirts finding them more comfortable, not worrying about putting them down all the time, more stylish and more age appropriate (god I sound about 50!) Its made of such lovely silky fabric which doesn’t cling to you, resulting in it’s meters of fabric flowing from places I didn’t know they could flow from.  With it being a dark plain colour it is very versatile meaning you could be a lot more adventurous than me with just a plain black jumper.

JANuary Favourites – Thats Tres Vogue colab!

JANuary Favourites – Thats Tres Vogue colab!

So with it being a new year I have joined the band waggon of monthly favourites. Not only is this my first favourites blog post (with finally getting round to it) but also very excitingly this is my very first blogger collaboration! This month with the lovely Phaedra from Thats Tres Vogue. I’ve done my 5 beauty favourites for this month here and head over to Phaedra’s blog to have a look at all her lovely goodies (all links below)

Ciate nail varnish in Tweed and Tails– I tend to struggle to find the patients to sit down and paint my nails however when I do this is always one I reach for this lovely dark olive colour form Ciate. As well as being a lovely colour it is really long lasting so great for the lazy nail folk like me.

Maybelline colour tattoo 24hr cream eyeshadows (Permanent Taupe and On and on Bronze) – With not being very proficient with eye shadows trying to use brushes and blend shades and ect I love using cream eye shadows with them being simple and easy and only need you finger to apply. These Maybelline ones are great due to having a smooth and creamy texture but dry down quickly to avoid creasing and smudging. They come in a great range of colours and work well on their own, or layered as I do with these 2 and obviously with other shadows too.

Schwarzkopf pro styling power wax – Having never been one for hair products with my hair care routine consisting of simply just washing and air drying it, I thought it was about time, especially with now having short hair and not being able to just throw it up in a bun, that I put some effort into styling it a bit. This Schwarzkopf wax is great for adding a bit of texture to your hair and has been great at giving my curls a bit more bounce and definition.

Bobbi Brown creamy matte lip colour in Tawny Pink – Since the finishing up of my beloved Mac Mehr recently (really need to stop talking about that) and with my closets store seeming to always be rammed to the brim, in a mission to find a similar replacement I came across this lovely one from Bobbi Brown and haven’t taken if off since. This is such a nice and creamy matte lipstick which dries down to be nice and long lasting. Its a bit darker than my beloved Mehr but I still think its such a nice colour for your lips which will go well with many different skin tones.

The Balm voyage pallet (Volume 2)– I love being able to find a pallet which has everything you need all in one. This one by The Balm includes a great selection of products from its selection of eye shadows, all easy to apply and buttery in texture with a mixture of matte and shimmery shades. I tend to turn more to the browny/beigey shades but this pallet would give me the option to go a bit bolder if I fancied. With The Balm being known for their highlighter’s with everyone seeming to own the Mary Lou manizer this one in this pallet doesn’t fail to disappoint with it producing a lovely subtle shimmer to the cheeks. With still being a bit scared of contouring I can’t say I have perfected using the contour powder but that can stay for me as a work in progress. Being so versatile and compact this pallet would be great for traveling. Also this was another great T K Maxx bargin for me so it worked out to being great value for money which you can’t be love
