Bourton on the Water

Bourton on the Water

No don’t worry, I haven’t spelt the word Bourbon wrong, Bourton on the water (annoyingly) doesn’t have anything to do with any kind of chocolate biscuit. (However I cannot confirm or deny how many were consumed in the making of this blog post). While roaming around the Gloucestershire countryside we landed up on the beautiful cotswold town of Bourton on the Water. With is old fashioned sweetshops and beautiful quaint streets it feels like you’ve stepped right into pintrest as the epitome of British living .

I’m not sure this photo could get more British if I tried, maybe only with the addition of a cup of tea and a cream tea.  With eventually  giving up on trying to get a clean shot with nothing it the background only then did a post van and a horse trot into the picture.

Photos from the Aegon Classic

Photos from the Aegon Classic

A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to get the chance to be an accredited photographer (I got a press pass and everything!) at the Aegon Classic women tennis tournament in Birmingham. Having never shot live sport or even seen a tennis match in person before you might say I was a little thrown in at the deep end. But with having the whole weekend there, i had plenty of time to try and get the hang of it.

It was actually rather different than I was expecting, with thinking it was going to be very high paced and constantly on the go, trying to get the best shots. However I actually found it on a whole quite slow and monotonous process, waiting for the precise moments when the player and the ball are in the exact right position before you even think about pressing the shutter.

Also one massive difference I noticed from any other style photography I have done before (theatre, portrait etc) was that obvious with it being a live match nothing it pre planned and you have no idea what the players are going to do next, where they are going to run on the court ect. My usual process of wanting to have everything pre planned out before I start pretty much had to be thrown out the window for this one.

The rain did its best to try and stop play however over the qualifying weekend we managed to get a good 5 matches in on centre court (2 including Laura Robson which I was a little too excited about).

In the end after wading through hundreds of photos of awkward arm pit shots, shots of half a player and shots which were just plainly out of focus these ones seem to be pretty much the best of the bunch.

I also put together a little mini vlog of one of the days for you all, oh I am spoiling you ;)

You know those times when on the way back from and extremely long 2 days in London when you spot a double rainbow and just have to jump out of the car while it is raining to get some all important photos? Well that happened to be us this weekend. As someone who is no stranger to a more challenging shoot, standing out in the rain was definitely not something new to me. Least the addition of not just one but two rainbows was a nice change. (We didn’t totally run to the car as soon as it turned monsoon like at all! with lighting equipment and all.)

ME_BEFORE_YOU_FABRIC_FORWARD_8350

A couple of weeks ago I was lucky enough to get the chance to attend the the premier night fan screening of the new film adaptation of ‘me before you’ starting Sam Claflin and Emilia Clarke.

Having been a long time lover of the book ever since it burst onto our bookshelves, when I heard that their was going to be a film adaptation I knew that it was going to be a must see film for me. Then secondly finding out that in the lead roles would be the aforementioned Sam Claflin, I mean I might have a slight crush on him, just a tiny one ;), and Emilia Clarke tearing herself away from those beloved dragons, I was even more excited about it.

Then unbelievably thirdly being given the chance to go to the premier fan screening, with a guest appearance of Sam Claflin himself, it was an opportunity that the 411 miles between Glasgow and London weren’t going to hold me back from.

To give you a brief introduction into the story Will Trainor (Claflin), a young successful business man with an adrenaline fuelled lifestyle, is left after a road accident paraplegic from the neck down. After loosing her job at a the local bakery Louisa Clark (Emilia Clarke) takes a job as Will’s carer and after a rocky start it is from there that their love story begins.

And I barely have words for getting to sit next to him. I’m just glad I managed to show a vague amount of composure on my face for the photograph and not ending up a red faced smiling loon.

Without giving too much away, obviously having read the book I knew it would be a very fun film but also an incredibly emotional one too. With my general inability to cry at films its rather unusually for me to be left for the the last 20 minuets of the film sobbing through my sleeves after my idiocy of not bringing any tissues, and trying very hard to not end up proper ugly crying and snotting all over myself (lovely image). Ladies, I definitely recommend waterproof mascara.

The gifts of this evening kept on giving, literally, with our free copies of the book and some lovely bumblebee striped tights, the ones thing that I think has been missing from my wardrobe all this time (all becomes clear in the film)

‘me before you’ is currently in cinemas nationwide and Thank You to Warner Brothers for the experience.

Chloe Cooks | Spaghetti Carbonara

Chloe Cooks | Spaghetti Carbonara

Yes today we are back with another cooking post and this being the first one which isnt muffin related, yay! So I thought I would start off with something easy being a spaghetti carbonara.

After going out for dinner in London last week at Vapiano’s  in oxford circus (check them out, they are soo good), after eating the best carbonara I think i’ve ever had I was inspired to try and cook my own. Now I can’t this quite holds up to theirs (what their chefs can do just makes my mind boggle) but if you are a lover of pasta and Italian food in general this is a great easy, cheap and tasty alternative.

Now I know with it creeping into the summer months many of us are ditching the hearty carb heavy dishes in favour of salads and lighter dishes however I think theirs room for a good pasta somewhere (how their isn’t a spec of Italian blood in my I don’t know.)

SPEGHETTI_CARBONARA_FABRIC_FORWARD_8059

SPEGHETTI_CARBONARA_FABRIC_FORWARD_8020

Ingredients: (for 4 people)

  • 400g spaghetti
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 200g smoked Pancetta
  •  cubes or streaky bacon, chopped
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed
  • 3 eggs
  • 75ml double cream
  • 50g Grana padano or Parmesan, finely grated, plus extra to serve

Method

  1. Cook the spaghetti. Bring a large, deep pan of salted water to the boil. Plunge spaghetti into the water, stir well and cook, following pack instructions.
  2. Fry the pancetta. Meanwhile, heat the oil in a frying pan. When hot, tip in the pancetta or streaky bacon. Fry over a medium heat until the fat in the meat has melted down into the pan and the meat has turned lightly golden. Be careful not to crisp the pancetta too much; it will be cooked a little bit more later on in the recipe. Remove from the heat and set aside.
  3. Prepare the sauce. Crack 2 of the eggs into a mixing bowl. Separate the yolk from the third egg: gently crack the side of the shell and, using both hands, slowly open it into two halves over a separate bowl – you want to keep the yolk in one of the halves. Tip the yolk from one shell half to the other and repeat until all the egg white has fallen into the bowl below, taking care not to crack the yolk on any rough shell edges. Tip the yolk in with the other eggs and beat together, along with the cream, the cheese and some seasoning.
  4. Combine the dish. Add garlic to the pancetta and return frying pan to hob. Fry over high heat for 1 min or until garlic is cooked and pancetta warmed through. Meanwhile, drain spaghetti. Tip back into the hot saucepan off the heat. Pour egg mixture over pasta, followed by hot pancetta, garlic, any fat and oils. Toss quickly and thoroughly with spaghetti spoon or tongs. Mix until it has thickened to a smooth, creamy sauce. Serve with extra cheese and freshly ground pepper.

On our second morning in Arran after spending far too long deciding on which part of the Island to go to, we decided to go right back to the same parts as the day before. Despite being a tad unadventurous, it turned out to have been a really good decision with managing to get some really cool shots with such a dramatic landscape.

I kept the look simple with this simple marron body con dress which ended up complementing the green and beige tones of the landscape really well. As someone who tends to run and hide under a massive jumper at the very mention of the word bodycon, I was pleasantly surprised how this little number from H and M nicely skims my curves without being too clingy.  (Looks like the massive meal of venison sausages I had the night before didn’t do my waist too much harm.)

Isle of Arran | Dramatic Portrait Shoot

Isle of Arran | Dramatic Portrait Shoot

FABRIC_FORWARD_DRAMATIC_PHOTOSHOOT_ARRAN_CHLOE_KNOTT-31

Before you say anything, don’t worry, I’m acting, well, being in freezing cold water on a Scottish island in the middle of February in a thin floaty dress I suppose there wasn’t much acting needed really.

Continuing onto part 3 of my Isle of Arran blog series as you can tell this is a little bit of a different shoot from my usual with not graffitied walls or pretty doors in sight. The one of the main reasons for going to Arran, other than having a little explore, was to try and find the right sort of landscape to be able to do this type of dramatic photoshoot, beaches and bog lands don’t just appear next to the Hereford industrial estate unfortunately.

The whole sort of concept for the shoot was that I was a “victim” running away from an “attacker” with the whole True Detective season 1 vibes (unfortunately Matthew Mcconaughey couldn’t make it.)

From my acting background it was a nice little opportunity to flex that old muscle again, well thats what Tom said when trying to convince me to do it ;)

As you can imagine it was really rather cold and how I was convinced to do this again for another shoot recently I will never know.

So sit back and have look at me pulling some delightfully awful faces.

The Isle of Arran | Part 2

CHLOE_ARRAN_35

There aren’t many places in the world I wouldn’t think that you are able to get a sandy beach and a snow topped mountain in the same picture (other than apparently in Middle Earth however my knowledge of that is rather hobbit sized :P. So for part 2 of my Isle of Arran series you find me frolicking around on a sandy empty beach. You may be thinking “Chloe, what lovely warm weather it looks like on the beach and its amazing that you have managed to get it all to yourself! Well, in the middle of February in single digit temperatures I can’t say many other people were jumping at the chance of going to the beach without wearing a serious amount of thermals. However together we braved the perilous icy cold temperatures in order to get some nice pics (bit dramatic but if you cant be dramatic when standing in front of a snow topped mountain then when can you?)

POSH_DRESS_4895

A couple of now months ago (doesn’t time fly) I fully exercised all my newly formed photography muscles with photographing Student Theatre at Glasgow’s production of Posh by Laura Wade. This was rather different from my usual of flower and still life’s with actual people and flashing lights to think about but it seemed my lucky stars were aligning on this day as I was really pleased with the results.

With the amazing venue of Cottiers Theatre being a renovated church which suited the play perfectly and such a talented cast and crew it was a  joy to work both backstage and as a photographer.

Through a mound of around 230 final photos I have managed to narrow it down to my final favorite 25 photos (I tried for 20 but I just can’t let them go!) and a couple of promo images too.

VOGUE 100: A Century of Style

VOGUE 100: A Century of Style

IMG_7259

During a less than 24 hours stay in London, with seeming to spend more time traveling there and back than rather in the place its self, (7 hour train journeys feel like just nipping down to the shop for me now) I eventually got round to seeing the VOGUE 100: A Century of Style exhibition at The National Portrait Gallery.

In celebration of Vogues centenary year, the National Portrait Gallery worked in collaboration with British Vogue to put together a fabulous collection of over 280 prints of its best and most famous photographs from the 100 years it has been in print. Despite my best intentions with seeming to miss it on all other occasions when entering the capital this time I finally got down to seeing it.

For any fashion and/or photography lovers this is defiantly a must see exhibition. I am going to have to hold my hands up and say that I have not been a long time reader of Vogue myself, I never fancied wading through a magazine basically full of adverts for a few feature at the back but having become more interested fashion and photography recently, I am rather partial to a little flick through.

The exhibition includes many classic photos of stars such as Naomi Campbell, Alexander McQueen, Keira Knightly and Kate Moss (making many regular appearances, having seemed not to have aged a bit in her whole career might I add). It was also a lot bigger than I expected with each era (1930, 1940, etc) having their own dedicated room, each full of images from the worlds highest acclaimed models, actors and photographers at the top of their game. It was amazing to see the magazine from its small illustrative beginnings to the high gloss of its content today and truly see how it has changed and developed over the years.

IMG_7248

The exhibition is running until the 22nd of April so if your ever in London get in there while it is still on!

To find out more information or to book tickets visit their website at http://www.npg.org.uk/whatson/vogue/exhibition.php

With the sun on occasion finally poking is glorious head out its time for many to start packing those winter warmers away in favour for something a little thinner. However being a Scotland dweller there is still a slight chill in the air so the knitwear and scared haven’t been banished to the draws quite yet. So as ever, enjoy a couple of photos of me sat on various steps and leaning on various walls.

Photography | Bromyard Speed Festival

I know what your thinking, where have all the dresses and lipsticks gone? Cars don’t tend to be a particularly regular feature on the blog unless casually leaning in front of one for one for an OOTD. With being 20 and having not even learned to drive yet, my knowledge of cars is, how should I put it, stuck in first gear, (I can literally tell how old one is and that is it). However with being asked to help take photos at the first year of The Bromyard Speed Festival and being promised a shiny press pass and everything, how could I turn it down?

So here are a couple of my favourite photos of the day.

From close up feature photos around the owners paddock, to trying to get the perfect action shots to getting a ride in one of the cars, it was a jam packed day consisting of cars, cars and yes you guessed it more cars.

Despite all this I don’t quite see myself becoming a huge petrol head quite yet with them not quite revving my engine, however it was really fun of a day to dip my toe into the world of classic cars.

Its not everyday that you wake up at 5am to go to your local swimming pool to put on a red dress and do a photoshoot. Now this isn’t particularly  unusual for me with some of the photoshoots and short films we’ve done in the past, getting up at the crack of dawn to get the perfect sunrise in the middle of a forest. Least this time it was in a nice and warm building, even with the addition of water.

But this time I did feel a bit of my depth (literally, 3.8m of diving pool depth), with having not stepped foot in a swimming pool since my school days, trying to swim and stay afloat while clothed was a bit of a task. Put it this way, I had to learn to tread water pretty quickly.

I was rather impresses by Mac Ruby Woo surviving at the mersey of the pool, cant quite say the same for the eyeliner as it dribbles down my face.

My partner in crime for this shoot was the brilliant Arthur Godden, who managed to haul himself around in the pool in near full suit not just a small dress (I have a feeling that would have looked odd). He managed some rather impressive flash and photography umbrella holding while treading water, somehow that didn’t get photographed.

Definitely braver than I was when it came to swimming underwater (I need googles :P )

My Blogger Crushes

My Blogger Crushes

Untitled-1

Since my new years resolution a few years ago to spend more time reading books, it was going so well until these lovely ladies blogs came onto my radar. Unsurprisingly with being a blogger myself (surprise surprise) rather than snuggled up with a book, more and more of my evenings are spent trawling through OOTD’s, beauty reviews and monthly favourites of all my favourite bloggers. Its from reading blogs like these that inspired me to start blogging and youtube in the first place so I thought it only right to honour them in one of my own posts.

Any big blog fans out there amongst you will probably know of them already however I still think their worth a mention.

WHAT OLIVIA DID

As the one and only blogger who’s blog I will check in with everyday, waiting to see a new post, I think she may win the award for my favourite blogger (its a very prestigious award.)

Don’t know what more I can say other than just such beautiful photos. Out of all the blogs I have seen I think Olivia from What Olivia Did definitely has best photos all round in my opinion. From her outfit posts with an impressive ability to match her outfits to various doors around London, to her product layouts with more colourful paper backgrounds than a branch of Paperchase, whats more to like.

Her style is quite cute and girlie so slightly different to me however, its great for getting inspiration to find ways of introducing this into my style (wishing I could carry off the red tent dress as well as she dose) and has definitely introduced me to some brands which my bank balance doesn’t like.

WONDERFUL U

Out of all of these ladies she is closest to my current personal style as a fellow lover of black and neutral tones and has probably been on the one to inspire me the most within my personal style. As well as her OOTD posts she also does beautiful model shoots with photographer Alexandra cameron. From swanning around in the sea to effortlessly lounging around in an abandoned building she definitely puts me to shame in the couple of dramatic shoots that I have done (coming up very soon).  Better get trying to find my room of feathers and lots of powder paint then.

THE LITTLE MAGPIE

Untitled-1

I basically just love everything this girl wears! I may not be blessed with stomach that can pull off wearing a bar with a see through top over the top but I love getting inspiration from her really cool modern style. With her blog focusing solely on fashion (and some of her highly enviable holiday snaps) I know I’m going to really like every post she puts up. Her style varies quite a bit and changes from post to post but as someone who seems to stick to the same style most of the time, this ability to mix things up and still look fab is something I admire.

FREDDIE HARREL

Untitled-1

Colour tends to be the first thing I see when I look at Freddie’s blog (think I’ve chosen some of the more muted down looks to show you.) There is no one else that I look at just to be cheered up by her infectious smile and bright and eccentric fashion sense. Her style is definitely fun and daring and an explosion of colour but in a very stylish and chic way.

And a couple of late entires..

This morning while just scrolling through instagram, as you do trying to wake myself up for the day, I stumbled across another group of lovely girls who I now already love and I felt I couldn’t not include them in this post somewhere.
